The goal in lip feminization is to take your natural lips, without distorting anything, but using what you already have, to enhance them and make them fuller. In this way we achieve natural results so that you look better with just lip gloss or a bold lip which ever you chose!
Slightly different techniques are used for mature ladies as opposed to younger women. Larger, fuller, luscious lips are in right now, this isn’t about to change anytime soon. Let’s look then at some available techniques, from injectable fillers to more permanent surgical options.
Male Lips vs Female Lips
We are going to start by reminding ourselves of what the differences are between masculine thinner lips, and what exactly sends signals to the brain, of a fuller more feminine look. The most obvious difference between masculine lips and feminine lips is volume. We can really help here with fillers. Usually the upper lip is 70% the size of the lower lip and there is also a more pouty, protuberant appearance to the lips.
The most common fillers we use are hyaluronic acids such as Juvaderm. This is a quick in office procedure that is not too painful. We uses a few techniques to decrease bruising so most patients will be fine to go right back to work. If a big change is desired it is best to build this up gradually over time. There is a difference in what younger patients will need as compared to more mature patients. We may use the product differently in more mature women in order to smooth out lines around the mouth while enhancing the lips. Sometimes a small amount of Botox can be used to soften these lines also. In women without lines the goal is instead to project and enlarge the vermillion or red part of the lips without giving a “duck lip” appearance.
